Cheese and Clams at Borough Market

One Saturday my friend James took me for a walk along the South Bank and we visited Borough Market. I absolutely loved the little vendors and stalls, the variety of food from all around the world (the closest dish to Indonesian that I found was a Malay chicken curry), and the vibrant energy from all the happy faces of eaters. One can walk around with a glass of Rose or hot mulled cider, taste Pecorino cheese from Italy, have fresh boiled pasta, pick one from dozens variety of olive oils, get a fresh baked bread and doughs, eat burgers from buffalo meat (or kangaroo if you prefer…), sip fresh cranberry lemonade, have sweet baklavas (the best baklava I’ve had ever!) and Turkish delights.

Borough Market is one of the largest and oldest markets in London. It is said that the market is dating back to the 12th century although the market claimed that they have existed since 1014. The wholesale market operates all weekday mornings (2 am – 8 am) and retail markets open on Wednesdays – Thursdays (10 am – 5 pm), Fridays (10 am – 6 pm), and Saturday (8 am – 5 pm). It is closed on Sundays. Check their website for opening hours info before your visit. Some of the vendors do not accept card payment so be ready with some cash, however, there are some cash machines in the market to enable us to buy more food. I think eating here (and probably stocking your fridge in the process with all the sauces and cheese and honey…) was a money well-spent, all products sold here were either home-made or organic.
